Duck Robot DIY Tutorials: Build Guides & Personal Maker Notes

For a documented home build, start with Open Duck Mini v2 and its author-linked English or Chinese guides. It is a separate robot from MicroDuck. Our September 8, 2026 review did not establish a completed, repeatable MicroDuck replica tutorial.

Choose the robot before the tutorial.

Open Duck Mini v2 is the practical starting point for a maker who wants published hardware instructions. Antoine Pirrone’s project links design files, a parts list, build documents, a runtime and real-robot demonstration videos. The project describes a roughly 42 cm robot with its legs extended. Its hardware and policies belong to that design. Antoine Pirrone: Open Duck Mini v2 project and real-robot demos ↗.

MicroDuck and Open Duck Mini v2 have different hardware. Similar appearance does not establish compatible printed parts, servo IDs, wiring or policies. Start with the project named in the tutorial and keep that choice throughout the build.

Five useful original resources.

Open Duck Mini v2 · Antoine Pirrone ↗Find the original design, parts, assembly, runtime and physical demos.Use as the source hub. Our eight-stage walkthrough puts the documents in build order.
中文 DIY 教程 · 同济子豪兄 and contributors ↗Follow chapters from purchasing and assembly through wiring, calibration and inference.Best starting point for Chinese readers. Expand the left-hand chapter tree to see individual lessons.
Interactive build guide · Tnkr ↗Explore an interactive model, parts table and illustrated assembly steps.Linked by the original project. Keep the repository documents nearby for version checks and remaining gaps.
Personal build notes · Jianliang Shen ↗Read a maker’s motor setup, wiring, IMU and runtime notes in Chinese.A troubleshooting companion dated May 27, 2025. The page has TODO sections; use the original docs for the main sequence.

Start the Chinese course here.

The course credits 同济子豪兄、小王、刘恺、刘越、袁通. We opened its public homepage, resource page and chapter navigation without signing in. The resource page links original repositories, printing files and a Chinese shopping list. These are OpenDuckMini resources.

  1. 课程首页 / course home ↗ — expand the chapter tree on the left.
  2. 开源资料 / parts and design resources ↗ — identify the design and shopping-list version.
  3. 姿态校准 / calibration ↗ — open the sublessons for motor checks, offsets and configuration.
  4. 算法推理 / inference ↗ — find the ONNX and simulation-inference lessons.

For a concrete example, the servo-offset lesson / 调节舵机偏移量 ↗ explains the adjustment script and the physical alignment to inspect. We opened this lesson too; use its own photos while checking the posture.

The library also contains archived documents. Prefer its current chapter tree; compare an older translated command with the runtime revision you installed. A chapter’s availability is not a hardware test by this site.

What counts as a complete build path?

Before ordering, look for all six: an exact parts list, fabrication files, illustrated assembly, a wiring diagram, configuration and calibration instructions, and a first-motion procedure tied to the same hardware. Keep links to each in your parts plan.

Open Duck Mini has documents spanning those stages, with gaps called out in our walkthrough. The MicroDuck replica we reviewed has early physical evidence, while its custom adapter PCB is still explicitly untested. Read the adapter’s own status ↗.
